What is a tree layout?
A tree layout is a way of arranging a diagram so a single root idea branches downward or sideways into levels of parent and child nodes. Each item sits at a defined depth, and connections only run between adjacent levels, which makes hierarchy and reporting lines easy to follow. It is the classic shape used for family trees, file structures, and decision breakdowns.
- Starts from one root and flows into successive levels of branches.
- Connections link only parent and child, never across the same level.
- Reads naturally top-to-bottom or left-to-right.
- Good for showing depth, order, and chains of cause or consequence.
- One of Overscope's six selectable map layouts.
How Overscope relates
Tree is one of the six layouts Overscope can render for a map. After you speak and a map is built, you can switch it into the tree layout to read your ideas as a ranked top-down structure instead of a radial spray.
