What is on-device transcription?

On-device transcription converts spoken audio into text using processing that runs locally on your device rather than on a remote server. Because the audio is handled on the phone itself, it does not need to be sent over the network to be understood. This reduces exposure of raw audio and can work without a constant connection.

  • Speech is converted to text locally, not on a cloud server.
  • Raw audio does not have to leave the device to be processed.
  • In Overscope, the audio buffer is discarded and never stored as a file.

How Overscope relates

Overscope transcribes speech on-device using Apple's Speech framework. The audio is discarded after processing and is never saved or uploaded.
